MONDAYS
Monday 6PM: Slow Track Fun #12 for Guitar & Uke (level 2) New Class! An easy going class for those who know some basic guitar chords or want to get started on the ukulele. We will learn at least a dozen well-known songs from a wide variety of sources. Songs from artists like Bonnie Raitt, Woody Guthrie, Ray Charles, Hank Williams, John Denver, Creedence Clearwater, Emmylou Harris, American traditional songs and many more. We will also learn how to start playing songs by ear. 7PM: Learning Scales and Simple Melodies
(level 2) This brand new class will focus on learning where the notes are on the first 5 frets of your guitar, learning how to read music on your guitar (in addition to the basics of reading tablature) and learning how to play simple melodies on your guitar. You'll learn how to read the time value of the notes you are playing as well as where to find the notes on your guitar. You'll learn scales in the keys of E, A, D, G, C, F, Am, Dm and Em. You'll learn the difference between a major scale and a minor scale, plus scales in less common modes like the Mixolydian mode and the Dorian mode, both of which are popular in contemporary folk and popular songs. |
TUESDAYS
5PM: Folk Standards (level 1-2) For those who know basic chords but are still slow changing from one chord to the next (especially the F chord). We’ll review the basic strums and chords, do lots of chord drills, learn new chords, new strums, bass runs, and 16 timeless folk, country, and rock songs. Americana and It's Roots #37
(multi-level class: levels 3 and 4) Always New Songs! We feature contemporary music that incorporates elements of American roots music styles plus the origins of American roots music. We’ll learn songs from artists like Lyle Lovett, Gillian Welch, John Hiatt, Fleetwood Mac, Aiofe O'Donovan, Bruce Cockburn, Sarah Jarosz, Emmylou Harris, Tracy Chapman, etc. In addition to learning songs from current Americana artists, we will also learn songs from some of the primary sources of American roots music. All guitar arrangements are written in tablature. 7PM: Songwriter's Circle
(no guitar level) Open to songwriters of all levels including beginners. Our songwriting class is different every quarter in our constant search for the muse. Come to get started writing your own songs; come for ideas and guidance; come to share a song in progress or a finished song. Come just to have a great time! Weekly assignments plus an opportunity to share your own projects. Class size is limited. Please sign up early! |
